Hello, you! I'm Jenny π
I'm the founder of Digital Nomad Girls (DNG) and host of our coworking membership 'The Lab'.
I'm a community builder (or "bringer-together-of-people" as I like to think of it) and a recovering full-time digital nomad who's putting down roots after nearly a decade on the road. π±
This is me, on a recent visit to my home town Munich.
[Image description: a woman (me, Jenny) smiling into camera in front of the Munich skyline]
I'm also a (former) chemist π©βπ¬, a fledgling climate activist β, a dabbler in the arts and crafts π§Ά, an enthusiastic beginner gardener πͺ΄ and book lover π (both reading and hoarding them) and an aspiring writer βοΈ (whatever that means).
Oh, and I was diagnosed with ADHD π§ in my late 30s, so that's been a ride.
...
But who am I? (no, seriously, I'm not sure...)
It's safe to say that I'm a multipotentialite, someone who is interested in many different things.
I've also been running my business Digital Nomad Girls since 2015, and over the years, the lines between my personal life, my community and my work have been blurred beyond recognition.
So after 2.5 years of lockdown - of being grounded after travelling full-time for 6 years - it's time for me to regain a sense of my own identity, all of me, not just my business or work.
And I will try to do this through creativity and writing.
That's why I set up this Medium under my own name, to figure out what I, Jenny, have to say and to share what I'm experimenting with and learning along the way.
I like to experiment
Experimentation is a recurring theme in my life, and not only because I used to work in a lab. To me, experimentation means curiosity, openness and lifelong learning. It's also a great way to beat perfectionism, especially when trying new things... uhm, like writing on Medium for example π.
(It's also why I named my membership community 'The Lab' - we experiment in our businesses and lifestyles together)
And as this is my space, I'm giving myself permission to experiment with and write about all sorts of topics, no "niche", no "rules": from long-term travel to climate grief, from gardening updates to book reviews, from mental health to feminism.
I want to explore...
...what it means to "belong" and to build a true community, both locally and virtually.
... what "home" means to me after having lived all over the world and what it's like to build a home base in a small town in south west England.
... how my business has evolved and continues to, and how to navigate entrepreneurship as an anticapitalist in a capitalist world.
Can you imagine?
And most importantly, I want to explore how to build a sustainable, just and kinder world for all of us to thrive in, one that doesn't measure success through growth but through connection, wellbeing & kindness.
In order to build this world, we first need to imagine it.
I call that world "The Good Future" and it's something I've been dreaming of for years and am now getting ready to bring to life.
...
Now what?
I've long abandoned any notions of ever getting super organised (hello ADHD) or "consistent" (oh, how I hate this word), so I won't promise a daily/weekly/monthly post. Instead, I'll write what I want and when I want.
I'll write for myself, and if you like, for you too. But definitely not for the algorithm π ββοΈ
I hope you'll stick around and that we'll get to know each other soon!
Jenny
